Abstract
•Multiple-point, pulse-burst mode laser ignition (LI) of CH4-air was investigated in a static combustion chamber using a purposely-built compact Nd:YAG/Cr4+:YAG laser.•Multiple-point LI leads to an acceleration of the flame speed in the early kernel development phase.•Multiple-point LI leads to an improvement of combustion efficiency near the lean limit.•Raising initial combustion chamber pressure leads to unexpected behavior in multiple-point LI.
