Abstract
Background The optimal surgical axillary staging for breast cancer patients converting from cN+ to ycN0 after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) is controversial. The ongoing AXSANA study aims to assess whether de-escalation of axillary surgery is possible in these patients without a loss of oncologic safety and whether it can improve quality of life. The current status of recruitment and axillary management of the patients included so far are presented.
