Abstract
This article aims at building, from the descriptions that on the production, sale and consumption of food, made by a group of travelers who visited the Colombian Caribbean during the 19th century, a narrative that allows to give historicity to said events and the act to feed. These travelers, of diverse nationalities and professions, with their images contribute to the particular knowledge of events that, connected, allow for a very particular reading of the way in which the Caribbean region inhabitants faced the harshness of an ecosystem and carried the food from the productive units to the table. Emphasis is placed on the sale of food in the markets, the place where it was produced and the assumptions that travelers had about the work of farmers and fishermen.
