Research of Near-Field Electromagnetic Scattering of Rough Surface Illuminated by Electric Dipole Sources

When the distance between incident wave and rough surface does not meet far-field approximation condition, it is necessary to study the characteristics of electromagnetic (EM) scattering in near-field. In this paper, a one-dimensional random rough surface is generated based on the Monte Carlo method and the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is used to calculate the scattering field strength. When an electric dipole source is selected as incident wave, the simulation results of the near-field EM scattering of the one-dimensional rough surface indicate that the incident angle and the correlation length affect the horizontal characteristics of the scattered-field strength of the rough surface in near field and the root mean square (RMS) height affects the vertical characteristics, which has certain help for the study of EM scattering echo of rough surface in near field.
