Ameliorative effect of the ethnomedicinal plant Blepharis maderaspatensis (L.) B.Heyne ex Roth on lipopolysaccharide-induced acute liver inflammation and oxidative stress in Wistar rat model

•LPS injection was used to mimic acute liver injury and oxidative stress in wistar rats.•BmE pre-treatment ameliorated serum biochemical levels and liver antioxidant status.•BmE pre-treatment suppressed the production of pro-inflammatory mediators and cytokines.•BmE protected the liver from LPS injury by suppressing the NF-κB signalling pathway.•The tribal claim on the liver-protective action of blepharis maderaspatensis has been established.
