Defect Correction on Unstructured Finite Volume Solvers

Advancement in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is driven by the desire to attain highly accurate solutions efficiently. Defect correction and error transport equation methods have proven to be useful in this respect without incurring as much computational cost as the conventional methods for improving solution accuracy. Truncation error estimation is key in both these methods. This paper aims at identifying the criteria necessary for the successful implementation of these methods on unstructured mesh finite volume solvers. 1-D model problems are used for this purpose and the results are extended to multi-dimensional problems.
