•Staphylococcus pseudintermedius is a commensal bacterium residing on the mucosae and skin surfaces of dogs.•S pseudintermedius has emerged as a global concern in small animal practices.•This report describes pyometra associated with S pseudintermedius in two bitches.•In one bitch the infection was lethal due to septic shock.•In the other bitch the bacteria caused pyometra with suppurative peritonitis.
