Antineoplastic effects of peroxisome proliferator activated receptorγ agonists

The peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) is a member of the NHR superfamily. PPARγ ligands can inhibit growth, induce apoptosis, and cause differentiation of cancer cells in vitro and in xenografts; and this can be enhanced by retinoids and NSAIDs. This paper reviews PPARγ-induced antineoplastic signaling pathways, and summaries the antineoplastic effects of PPARγ agonists in different cancer cell lines, animal models, and so on.
