The effects of distalization of upper molars by improved pendulum appliance.

Objective:To study the mechanics of improved pendulun appliance and its effects on craniofacial and dentoalvaolar structure. Method:12 class Ⅱ malocclusion patients (females 9 and males 3) were selected as the subjects. Age from 11 to 15 years. All the patients were treated with improved pendulum appliance. The duration for distalization of upper molar was from 2 to 4 months. Cephalomatric analysis and model survey was made. Result:the upper molar was distaliz ed by 2.75 mm pre side with mainly titling movement,Insiors mesially moved by 2.06 mm on average per side,its over jet increased to 1.30 mm,and its lip inclination to angle 1.9°. The improved pendulum appliance had less effects on craniofacial structure. Conclusion:the improved pendulum appliances can distalized the upper molar and correct the molar occlusion effectively.
