Abstract
Fish production has gradually increased in recent years and among the most cultivated species in Brazil are round fish, tambaqui and pacu, and their hybrids.Although there are several reports from producers about the best productive performance of fish farming hybrids, scientific reports are scarce. Thus, the objective of this work was to monitor the development of the hybrid tambacu (Colossoma macropomum x Piaractus mesopotamicus), and to analyze the operational cost of production in the region of Rio Brilhante, Mato Grosso do Sul.In a semi-intensive excavated nursery system, 400 tambacus were created for 210 days.Growth characteristics were measured by biometrics every 30 days.Performance was measured by consumed feed intake, weight gain, feed conversion and survival at the end of the breeding period. For the cost calculation, investment cost and operating cost were considered. The productive indices observed were final average weight was 1.047kg, with apparent feed conversion of 1.5 and survival of 95%.The initial investment cost was R$ 41,590.00, the operating cost of R$ 2,252.32,and gross income of R$ 4,776.00.Without taking into account the initial investment, a net value of R$ 2,523.68 was obtained, considered low for 7 months of creation. However, the nursery has a higher support capacity than that produced in this cycle, and can increase productivity without increasing the initial investment.
