摘要
Abstract This chapter outlines how to manage physical, historical, and social factors when choosing a new garden site, or working with an existing one. This is especially important in situations that are problematic in terms of sunlight, contamination, or tenure, or where large investments, for example in land, improvements, perennial plants, or terracing, are being considered. First, the chapter discusses physical space, including changing sunlight and shadow during the day and year, temperature, air and water flow, and planting patterns. Then, it looks at historical and social contexts, including contamination, access, noise, and security.
