High frequency common-mode voltage components caused by the PWM is a common problem in motor drive. It causes electromagnetic interference, over voltage stress in the winding insulation and bearing currents, which can cause premature damages an failures. The bearing currents problem can be mitigated by a proper selection of the PWM strategy.
