Smart power consumption is a multidisciplinary research field and has become one of the hottest issues in recent years. It is of great significance to choose the key technologies which need to be tracked and followed up. An evaluation model is developed based on computer-aided bibliometric analysis method in this paper. The model can be used to propose a comprehensive evaluation of different potential technologies. Life cycle theory and S-curve model are applied to evaluate development phase, pattern and trends of typical technology. Citation analysis theory is applied to uncover the temporal sequence association of various technologies and identify key pilot technologies. The methods presented in this paper have been applied in roadmap planning of smart power consumption technologies for State Grid Corporation of China and some suggestions are adopted.
