Abstract
Air pollution effects on cardiovascular diseases are now well recognized. Recent studies have shown that short and long-term exposures to external polluants increase cardiovascular mortality, adverse coronary events, heart failures, cardiac arrests and some cardiac rhythm disorders. Concerned pollutants are mainly NO, NO2, SO2, O-3, CO and fine particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10). We studied the impact of air pollution in the urban area of Nice (NO, NO2, SO2, O-3, PM25 and PM10) on emergency admissions for acute heart failure to the Nice University Hospital complex during the 2014-2016 period. We found no significant correlation, with the exception of a small positive correlation with PM2.5 on 5 days. Prevention relies, on the one hand at an individual level, on educational therapy, and on the other hand at a national level, a pressure on the European governments for compliance with WHO thresholds.
