Abstract
Fluid flow in porous media is a complex phenomenon that depends on the reservoir characteristics. Due to the pore size distribution in underground formations, accurate prediction of capillary pressure for various pore shapes and sizes is necessary to understand how changes to the capillary pressure arise. Here we consider the situation in which a small volume of liquid phase surrounds a cylindrical pillar and predict the capillary pressure. We validate our prediction by comparing with Surface Evolver simulations for a range of contact angles and pillar radii.
