Phylomitogenomics provides new perspectives on the Euphasmatodea radiation (Insecta: Phasmatodea)

•Fossil-dated phylogeny of the suborder Euphasmatodea using 39 mitogenomes.•Inconsistency with traditional systematic at several taxonomic levels.•Radiation of phasmids lineages most likely occurred after the Triassic-Jurassic boundary.•Changes in the selection regime on mitochondrial genes possibly involved in evolutionary radiation.
