A compact high-order gas-kinetic scheme on unstructured mesh for acoustic and shock wave computations

•A fourth- up to sixth-order compact scheme is constructed on unstructured mesh.•Accurate solutions of compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations are obtained.•MSMD improves temporal accuracy and efficiency of the scheme.•The scheme presents excellent performance from shock interaction to acoustic wave propagation.
