摘要
•Red mud contains large amounts of microscale particles.•Microscale particles strongly adhere to the earthworm epidermis.•E. fetida microscale dermal pores may be blocked by microscale particles.•Micro-particles may impair earthworms’ dermal respiration and nutrients uptake.•Amount of RM particles < 1 μm should not be > 20 % if used for soil amendment.
