Abstract
This paper contrasts IEEE 802.11 and 15.4e for IoT system. Such evolving protocols are for IoT-based applications. The legacy .11 has an open channel structure, Distributed Coordinating Function (DCF). By comparison, 15.4e has different medium access control modes. Among them, DSME suits for IoT. In this paper a distinction between these two norms is explored using an empirical model and is checked by means of simulations. Outcomes reveal when combined with IEEE 802.11 legacy DCF, the DSME shows major improvements in DSME performance.
