The Jesuit'S Apothecary Activity: From Natural To Chemical Remedies

The Company of Jesus stands out from its foundation for the missionary and educational work that developed, especially, with the native populations. Meanwhile, its field of action reached several scientific areas. This was the case of the apothecary activity developed by the latter in the sale of medicines and which materialized in the elaboration of a pharmacological medical writing, such as the Coleccao de varias receitas, 1766. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to signal for the production of knowledge within the Company from the manufacture of medicines that allied knowledge of the natural and chemical world.
