Effectiveness and Adherence to Treatment with Nebulized Colistimethate Sodium (promixin®) in Non-Cystic Fibrosis Bronchiectasis Colonized Bypseudomonas Aeruginosa(psa)

Introduction: The lack of adherence is involved in treatment failure. The aim of the study is to assess adherence and clinical and bacteriological effectiveness of nebulized treatment with sodium colistimethate (Promixin®) inhaled by I-neb® device in patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis colonized by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PsA). Patients and Methods: A prospective, multicenter, observational, longitudinal study of a cohort of adults treated for at least 6 months with Promixin®. Compliance data were collected with the computer platform Insight. Lung function data, sputum bacteriology and number of exacerbations and hospital admission in the previous year and after treatment were analysed. Results: 106 patients, 57 males (53.8%), average age 64.0 ± 14.6 years. The post-infectious aetiology was the most frequent and PsA was the only isolated pathogen in 84% of cases. The mean treatment time was 26.8 ± 16.7 months (6.1 to 63.9). Proper nebulizer management was 96.6 ± 7.8% and real adherence 84.3±20.2%.
