Lithium‐Ion Batteries: Understanding the Stability for Li‐Rich Layered Oxide Li2RuO3 Cathode (Adv. Funct. Mater. 9/2016)

On page 1330, D. Xia, X. Han, and co-workers demonstrate that the structural integrity of the layered structure of Li2RuO3 cathode is due to large flexible distortion when totally delithiated, with the formation of O22− species facilitated by the presence of lithium ions in the transition metal layer. This result provides additional scope for high-capacity cathode design for lithium ion batteries.
