Abstract
•Proposed a simple, numerically stable unsteady flow and contaminant transport model.•Unlike others, it unifies Saint-Venant and AD equations using same numerical scheme.•This model can be very good alternative for mesoscale semi-gauged river application.•It outperforms MIKE11-AD model in numerical, laboratory and real-river applications.
