Abstract

Unstable CH3SeI3 is prepared in two ways from dimethyl diselenide. According to its crystal structure determination it occurs as [CH3SeI2]I-+(-) with iodine iodine contacts between the ions. The previously published [pyridineH](2)(+)[SeI6](2-) turns out as a mixture of [pydidineH]I-+(5)-, [pyridineH(+)](2)[I-4](2-), and Se.
