Both the shifts and the data differences after warping provide useful information. Moreover, the warping function has been used to infer underlying physical changes, for example, relative velocity changes from 4D seismic volumes and Vp/Vs ratios from PP-PS sections. We illustrate that warping-based inference of physical changes from warping functions should be done cautiously. A warping function that aligns data well does not necessarily translate to an accurate inference. A post-processing method is proposed in order to reduce such errors in warping-based interpretation. The requirement of the method, however, is the location of event peaks or troughs, which are not readily available in practice. To make the method more practical, simple integration of traces followed by detrending is used to reduce wiggles and side lobes, making the picking much easier.
