•Comparing studies of various surgical techniques to treat leukoderma after burn.•Punch minigrafting & noncultured keratinocyte suspension methods showed the most improvement.•Cultured autograft, cell suspension spray and chip skin grafting methods have great potential.•A combination of a highly effective low cost method with a limited side effect profile is desired.•Need more studies to determine superiority of surgical methods for leukoderma after burn.
