Abstract
The author examines the historical context of Aboriginal health especially sexual health and the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. He believes that improvement in health is contingent on an acknowledgement and understanding of our shared history. For those working in the field of Indigenous sexual health, this implies an awareness, in particular of the discriminatory and expedient practices that characterised earlier approaches to Indigenous sexuality and ill-health. To this end, the author explores the histories of Western Australia and Queensland. (non-author abstract)
