Lanthanide and Organotin Derivatives with New 2,6-Bis(carboxyalkylsulfanylmethyl)-4-methylphenol Binucleating Ligands - Synthesis, Infrared and Mossbauer Characterization

We report that treatment of the sodium salt of p-cresol with sulfanylacetic or 3-sulfanylpropanoic acid and formaldehyde gave 2,6-bis(carboxyalkylsulfanylmethyl)-4-methylphenol (H(3)L and H(3)L'), which gave different complexes upon reaction with lanthanide salts or organotin compounds.
