Mechanical properties of silicone based composites as a temperature insensitive ballistic backing material for quantifying back face deformation.

•A replacement ballistic backing witness material for Roma Plastilina #1 (RP1).•The material does not require heating and exhibits minimal temperature dependence.•The room temperature response matched heated RP1 using six different test methods.•The material can be a drop-in replacement utilizing current RP1 infrastructure.
