Directional Spread of Activity in Synaptic Networks of the Human Lateral Amygdala.

•Living human amygdala shows similar neuronal activity patterns in slices with and without spontaneous epileptic discharges.•Specimens obtained from the same patients showed both spontaneous and non-spontaneous activity.•The presence of both types of slices indicated the existence of small spots of epileptiform activity.•Frequently local electrical microstimulation failed to evoke epileptic discharges in the non-active specimens.
