•We tested efficacy of add on verapamil on treatment of drug resistant epilepsy.•Low dose of verapamil (20mg, p.o. tid) reduced seizure frequency in patients.•There were no serious adverse effects and no drop out.•A placebo controlled study at this low dose with may be more informative.
