•Workpiece temperature in ultrasonic assisted creep feed grinding (UACFG) is studied.•Effects of grinding parameters on temperature in UACFG are investigated.•Applying ultrasonic to the grinding leads to temperature reduction up to 25.91%.•Depth of cut is the most effective parameter on temperature reduction in UACFG.•Increasing ultrasonic intensity leads to reduction in the depth of thermal damage.
