•CK19 expression in three human breast cancer cell lines, SKBR3, BT549, and BT474.•CK19 was highly expressed in invasive breast carcinoma with ER+, invasive breast carcinoma with ER− and breast adenocarcinoma respectively.•CK19 may be used to detect metastasis of breast cancer.
