Fabricating an enhanced stable superhydrophobic surface on copper plates by introducing a sintering process

•A sintering process is coupled with the traditional solution-immersion method.•A stable superhydrophobic surface is fabricated by use of this new method.•Both adhesive strength and acid resistance of the modified surface are improved.•The sintering temperature and modification time are key processing factors.
