Abstract
Study of fluid instabilities such as Rayleigh-Taylor and Richtmyer-Meshkov instabilities requires accurate computational modeling of dynamically moving fronts. This paper reports the verification and validation of the FronTier code and its applications to the fluid mixing problem. We show that the Lagrangian front tracking method provides high resolution to the front and the tracked solution gives significant enhancement of buoyancy acceleration in Rayleigh-Taylor instability and enstrophy generation in the shock-driven Richtmyer-Meshkov instability.
