Abstract
Objective To study the expression of survivin protein and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and the prognosis of HCC. Methods The expression of survivin protein and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in 46 cases of HCC were determined by immunohistochemistry method. Results The survivin protein expressed in 31 of 46 cases of HCC (67.4%). The expression of PCNA was significantly higher in the HCC with positive survivin expression than in the HCC with negative survivin expression. The patients with positive survivin expression had a worse survival rate of 2-year than the patients with negative survivin expression. Conclusion The expression of survivin may play an important role in the proliferation of HCC cells and closely associate with the prognosis of HCC.
