Groups With Children

Abstract The chapter presents the importance of a strong relationship among the social, emotional, and cognitive development of children. To promote the healthy psychosocial development of children, this chapter discusses helping children learn social competence skills and how they can be a protective factor that helps them respond to difficult situations and build coping skills to promote mental health. Thus, the process of teaching social competence is detailed. Next, the chapter presents the use and ease of utilizing groups to administer skills to promote social competence among children and presents a framework to promote effective group treatment.
