Design and Performance Evaluation of CP Horn with Integrated Mono-groove Polarizer for Satellite Applications

This paper introduces a circularly polarized dual-mode horn antenna that incorporates a mono-groove polarizer. The primary objective of the proposed antenna design is to achieve excellent circular polarization characteristics while simplifying the overall design compared to traditional solutions. By utilizing a single groove on the inner wall of the circular waveguide, the polarizer generates circularly polarized electromagnetic waves and reduces the complexity of the antenna system. To validate the performance of the proposed horn antenna, it was fabricated and evaluated. The measurement results align well with the simulation results, with a measured axial ratio (AR) of $\lt1.2$ dB and a $\vert \mathrm{S}11 \vert \lt -20$ dB achieved within the frequency range of 5.3-5.5 GHz.
