Vehicle Following Model Using Dynamic Spacing Strategy Based on V2X

Addressing the limitations of the constant headway car-following model, this paper introduces a V2X-based dynamic headway car-following strategy. It considers both vehicle speeds and the preceding car's acceleration to enhance adaptability and flexibility. By utilizing real-time V2V communication, accurate preceding car data is obtained, improving data reliability and overall effectiveness. MATLAB/Simulink is employed to establish a vehicle dynamics model for verification. Experimental results demonstrate the strategy's improved performance across various acceleration and deceleration scenarios. Overall, this dynamic strategy surpasses the traditional constant headway approach, aligning better with real-world car following conditions. It allows flexible spacing adjustments for increased safety during rapid deceleration. With gentler speed changes, it reduces the maximum speed difference by 21.72%, enhancing driving comfort. Thus, this dynamic headway car-following strategy effectively addresses the challenges of low headway adjustment capability in complex scenarios.
