Feeding modes and technical efficiency of small pig holders in Vietnam: a case study in Hanoi

Small pig holders in Vietnam face obstacles when feed costs increase daily. Therefore, identifying a cost-effective feeding mode can help farmers cope with this problem. This study compared the effects of two popular feeding modes, commercial feed and combination feed (mixing instant feed with agricultural byproducts), on the technical efficiency (TE) of small pig holders in Vietnam. The data envelopment analysis approach and meta-frontier were used to measure and compare the TE of commercial and combination feeds.
