A Dual-Polarization Bandwidth Metasurface Reflectarray Antenna

In this article, a dual-polarization broadband metasurface reflectarray for Ku-band is proposed. The element consists of a cross structure and multiple square rings. The period of the elements is $\mathbf{0.5}\boldsymbol{\lambda}_{\mathbf{0}} (\boldsymbol{\lambda}_{\mathbf{0}}$ is the free-space wavelength at 12.5GHz). By optimizing the different structural parameters, the element achieves a 360° phase shift range and the phase shift curve is a linear. Meanwhile, the reflection amplitude of the element remains greater than -0.5dB for Ku-band. Based on the proposed multi-resonance element, a broadband reflectarray antenna is designed and simulated. To reduce the feed blocking, the antenna adopts 15° oblique illumination. Finally, the simulation results show that the reflectarray antenna can achieve a 3-dB gain bandwidth of 40.8% (10.1GHz to 15.2GHz), and the maximum gain is 24.1dBi.
