Pentatomic carbon ring conjugated nitrogen-doped nanographene

A pi extended N-doped nanographene molecule with pentatomic carbon ring conjugation was synthesized. The molecule, 1,14-dichloro-6,9-dimethoxyquinolino[2 ',3 ',4:3,4]indeno[2,1,7-ghi] phenanthridine (1), exhibited potential as a metal cation and proton receptor with a UV-vis and fluorescence response to selected metal cations (e.g., Zn2+, Zr4+, Ag+, Cu2+, or Cd2+) or protons. A N-doped nanographene 1 was synthesized. Compared to the hexatomic carbon ring conjugated TB(phen), this study focuses on the effects corresponding to the pentatomic carbon ring conjugation and substituent group of 1 on the physical properties.
