Performance Investigation of a Novel Hybrid Reluctance Motor

This paper introduces a new 12/16 hybrid reluctance motor (HRM). In the proposed topology, permanent magnets (PMs) are parked in the rotor poles which leads to increases the air gap flux density, consequently increasing torque density. In addition, a full bridge power electronic converter is utilized to feed the proposed motor with positive and negative excitation current. Moreover, the electromagnetic characteristics of the proposed hybrid reluctance machine (HRM) are evaluated using the finite element method (FEM) and compared to C-Core HRM and E-Core HRM configurations with same dimensions. FEM results demonstrate the torque density of the proposed motor is much greater in comparison to the other HRMs.
