Predicting motions of deepwater platform based on the inverse reconstruction of environmental loads

•A method for predicting motions of deepwater platform based on the inverse reconstruction of the environmental loads is proposed.•Viscous and nonlinear effects on platform are taken into account in the proposed method.•The feasibility of the proposed method is validated by experimental results.•The proposed method shows higher accuracy than the conventional method in hybrid model tests.
