Percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion in mitral valve disease: a nationwide readmission database analysis

•No prior data for left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and concomitant mitral valve disease (MVD) exists.•Following LAAO, MVD patients had higher odds of post-procedural PE without an increase in mortality, stroke, or major bleeding as compared with those without MVD.•MVD was also associated with higher odds of readmission at 30 days.•These results provide a rationale for LAAO as part of the stroke prevention strategy among patients with valvular AF.
