Thermal modeling of the slots in electric machines is of great importance for the development of highly utilized machines. A novel method was developed, which enables the calculation of individual conductor temperatures in a filled slot. Analytical equations from potential theory are used to keep the computation time low compared to numerical methods. An underlying variation of the conductor arrangements allows for improved accuracy with respect to the realistic modeling of the conductor arrangement in the slot. The results of the method are verified by means of finite element analysis and show high agreement.
