Identification of personalised learning needs: A literature review

This paper reports on a review study concerning research related to the identification of the personalised learning needs of learners. It addresses the various learning needs examined in related studies, the types of technique used, and the types of data collected to identify the learning needs. A total of 348 publications on personalised learning between 2011 and 2021 were collected from Scopus for analysis. The findings show various personalised learning needs identified in the literature, with the most common being learning experiences, learning resources, and tutoring. These needs were often identified through the types of technique used, such as learning platform, learner assessment, and learner profile. The most frequently collected data was learning performance and learning behaviours. The findings reveal the patterns in the approaches and technologies used for identifying the learning needs of individual learners. This being the first step in providing personalised support to address their needs.
