An Improved Strategy for Direct Instantaneous Torque Control of Four-Phase Switched Reluctance Motor

A direct torque transient control based on the relationship between inductance and torque of switched reluctance motors(SRM) is proposed for application to a four-phase 16/12 switched reluctance motor. Based on the direct transient torque control by applying the hysteresis torque controller, a new control region is added, which is located near the minimum value of phase inductance, considering the effect of phase inductance on torque. The control of the new region can prepare for the subsequent torque build-up. Compared with the conventional direct transient torque control, it can provide torque and control torque pulsation at higher speed and higher load.
