Households participation in energy communities with large integration of renewables

The adoption and implementation of smart grid technologies raise new challenges while also creating opportunities. The concept of energy communities motivates customers to become closer, collaborate and achieve common goals. In these communities, global energy management models, demand response programs, and transactive energy models can be deployed to increase the community’s sustainability. This chapter starts by presenting a background on energy communities and renewables integration. Next, three novel demand response programs for energy communities will be described. These programs promote the members engagement and direct participation with the Internet of Things devices. The demand response models assess, evaluate, select, and invite clients to participate in the event. During the event, the proposed programs will track participation in order to maintain the energy balance in the community. To demonstrate the novel demand response programs, two case studies are shown, where the models are used to keep the energy balanced.
