Depolymerization strategies for lignin valorization

This chapter introduces diverse depolymerization strategies for lignin utilization. It summarizes the widely applied thermochemical approaches including reductive and oxidative deconstruction methods as well as pyrolysis. In addition, the studies in photoelectrocatalytic lignin depolymerization are discussed. This chapter explains lignin depolymerization approaches with different feedstock, catalysts, solvent/gas systems, and their products. The advantages and challenges of each strategy are briefly discussed at the end of the chapter.
